The design objective of this project was to create a cool-looking
computer-controlled graphical display system for a 1989 Chevrolet
Celebrity. The following items were to be included on the display:
- Speed in MPH, both analog (needle-type) and digital (numeric)
- Odometer in miles, and trip-meter
- Remaining fuel level
- Battery voltage
- Engine temperature
- Hi/lo headlight
- Night driving mode
- 0-60MPH time (tenths of a second)
- 1/4 mile time and speed
Accomplishing this seemingly simple task required overcoming numerous
engineering problems, including interfacing an embedded computer with LCD
display modules and automotive sensors, and writing compact system software
to measure, filter, and display relevant information.
